In this episode: the human brain, conspiracy theories, celebrity apologies, and spirited away. This one hits all the talking points in just a quick 39 minutes.
P.s. if you're not the guy who I think you are, black mini cooper with red racing stripes, then I'm sorry to you too. Just drive more carefully, alright? Not everyone out there has cat-like reflexes like me ;)

Episode: 4
*intro* For some reason, the act of hitting the record always trips me up. I'm able to monologue to myself till Kingdom come. But as soon as I hit record, I hit stuff. stutters and stops and nervousness and oh, I need to be paying attention to the recorder. I wonder if that's Schrodinger's cat at play, that kind of theory that well, when I'm not recording it, it's not a measurement, so it can be as free as I want it to be, and I can go wherever I want to go, and I don't have to worry about constraining my mind. But the moment it becomes a recording, a measurement, the moment I start looking at it, it becomes constrained and it starts to be put into a box of sorts. That's really what the internet is. It's a box with a radioactive device. It's open a file of poison. Each time we post something, we're looking inside the box. And this time the radioactive iotope, you know, for the internet, probably be connected towards a whole variable of things. But that's kind of what I wanted to talk about today. This is the fact that our brains are so weird and we don't understand them, like, at all. And even when we do try to understand them, we just start to understand how much more we don't understand about them. Our brains, every single person's brain is tricking them into seeing things that aren't real. You want to know how I know that? You can't see your nose, even though it's right there, right in front of you. And I think that's kind of ironically funny that's right there in front of us all the time. Our brain will just fill in the blanks with whatever seems right. It reminds me of that, you know, white and gold or blue and black dress, meme that went around, or the brain storm green needle thing, or the laurel candy thing, where you hear or see something based upon your own perspective or experience. That's very strange. I think it gets stranger when you realize that if your brain isn't filling in the blanks, if you do see see your nose 24/7, then there's something wrong with you. Isn't that a weird way to look at it? that if your brain isn't making up part of reality, oh, then we gotta fix that. But if your brain is making up part of reality, then you're fine. But if your brain starts making up too much of reality, that's a problem. I think that's where it relates back to the Energy podcast, where I was talking about balance, being most important. You always got to be able to see both sides of the coin and, you know, balance it on its edge, which is pretty fun. You ever, like, try to balance a bunch of quarters in a row and then like knock them down like dominoes? It's fun and difficult. I think our propensity to need to fill in the blanks is what makes conspiracy theories so popular nowadays. Because conspiracy theories is taking a bunch of data and adding it to a scatter plot and then trying to find that line that fits up with the best And sometimes they're the ones literally adding in that line, or the line is already there. And I think that's what makes it kind of fun and interesting to people. And I think when you have a population that has a high tendency for extreme pattern recognition that's when you get more conspiracy theorists and things. things like that. You get people finding patterns where there aren't patterns. and that's something I do all the time in my own life and low key, sometimes it's fun. Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong. Sometimes it's like this is too much. and I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, because like I said, sometimes I'm right. Like I said, though, sometimes I'm wrong. Like, here here's a fun conspiracy theory for you. About a year to six months ago, I was driving along the highway to go pick up my mom. And traffic was just bullshit. It was bad. I was in the leftmost lane. and it was going slowest out of all lanes. And if you're from England, then you don't know. The left lane is supposed to be fast, not the slow lane, so it was bad traffic. And I was just, I just accepted it, and I was like, whatever, I'm in the left lane. traffic sucks. I'm gonna stay in this lane, and I'm not gonna hop all around and do crazy stuff because I'm gonna get there when I get there. And since the traffic was bad, I had a lot of time to think. So I was thinking to myself,Man, it really sucks how sometimes people can just ruin my day, because they'll do something to piss me off or they'll annoy me, or they'll, like, be a jerk to me, and I won't react in the moment and I'll just carry it around with me all day. And I said to myself, "Man, I don't want to do that anymore. Next time somebody makes me want to react, I'm gonna react in the moment. I'm not gonna carry it around with me anymore. That's theirs to take. I'm not carrying around their baggage anymore because they want to treat me that way. I'm gonna just let it fly next time. So I was driving along the highway. And then this black mini Cooper with a red racing stripe came up, and he was driving erratically, and I pinged him almost right away. And I was like, "Oh, man, I gotta keep an eye on that guy. He's doing some scary stuff right now." And whenever I ping a driver like that, I will get close to the car in front of me so that they don't think that there's any possibility of being able to cut in front of me. And I saw this guy, and I let my guard down for, like, just a second. And I backed up just a little bit from the guy in front of me. And this black mini Cooper with a red stripe cuts in front of me. And I had to slam on my brakes, and I was so mad, and I was like, thisis is exactly what I was talking about. This is my moment, this is it, this is now. And I laid on the horn. It was a long, long horn. It was one of those fuck you horns. And then I started tailing him. I got up on the back of his car. And I was like, "crew you!" And I started yelling. And I was like, "You drive like dog shit, you suck. You're the worst driver ever." And I just kind of roasted his balls for a few minutes. And then I was like, " I don't want to be behind you. You're pissing me off." And I got out of the lane. But then he got in my lane again. So then I emerged back into the left lane. And then we were kind of matched up window to window, and we were having this little like, dick measuring contest. And I looked over at him and I'm like, who the fuck is this long-haired John Mulaney lookalike think he is? Who the fuck is this Timu, John Mulaney driving like a piece of dog shit right now I just laid into him with every creative insult I could think of. And then I was I started laughing so hard because I was like, "You know what? These are actually pretty good. I got myself almost at one point. I think it was you drive like shit, you fucking. We got John Mulaney at home fucking looking ass piece of shit or something like that. I can't even, I'm trying not to remember it too hard because I really made myself crack up. And I was like, you know what? fine, there we go. there. The energy's all out now. And I think he got in front of me again. I just kind of relented a little bit, and I said,You know what? fuck this." And then I dropped back a little bit, cut over three lanes, and I circled around, and I got past everything. And then I saw him again, and he came up right behind me, and I was like, this fucking guy. Because I was weaving, and you know, obviously I might have opened up the path through. him, so I was like, oh, he's using my advantage. But anyways, I got off the highway, picked up my mom, never thought about it again. This past May, John Mulaney comes out with a TV show. called Everybody's in LA. I had no idea John Mulaney lived in LA. I thought he was a Chicago kid. I thought he was a New York boy. I didn't know he lived in L.A. And I missed the first episode, so I watched the second episode, and this show is a live show, so he's taking callers from California to talk about California. And with every call, he ends with, so what kind of car are you driving? And I'm like,Did I miss something? So I go back to the first episode. And he just starts asking the question out of nowhere. And even Jerry Seinfeld, who's, you, on comedians and cars having coffee, has a propensity to like cars, asked, why are you asking about the cars? And John Mane was just like, "Well, let's find it interesting." I drive a mini Cooper and I'm learning how to use stick. See that's where the conspiracy theory comes into play now for me. As soon as he said that, it's like it triggered a memory in my brain, and suddenly I was like,. Oh my God. Is John Mulaney trying to mruber me in front of the entire world right now? Is he trying to get me to call in and then yell at me for having a road rage contest with him? And then so I tried calling in, like, every day, and every day he came up with different topics, and I would try to come up with a joke as fast. as possible for each topic and then start calling in. And I like never got through. The line, was always super busy. And my favorite one was when he had a paranormal an episode about paranormal stuff. I thought of the joke. I was going to call in and be like, "Hey, John, I'm a psychic. I can tell you the exact car that you drive." And then I was going to be like, a black mini Cooper with a red racing stripe and then say the license plate. And I was going to hope that it was him and he'd be like, ". And I'd be like, "You know what, John, you know my car, too." And then I was going to be like, "Chevy Sonic. And then that would have been my confirmation right there. I would have had closure on it, I would have known. But now I don't have closure, so now I'm making a podcast about it, so I can have closure about it, so I could know. And then also, like, um. I don't know, the first second episode, he started getting and then he said he started getting in trouble, and I was like, oh man, did his McGruber plot just get foiled? And, uh.. I don't know, I enjoyed the show, though, and it made me realize, you know, sure, man, be your most authentic self. It's gonna create memorable transactions with people. memorable interactions that will, you know, maybe even drive people to go try and McGruber you on live TV. That would be very fun. And John Mulaney, if you are listening to this, I am sorry for saying you drive like dog shit. I understand that you are learning how to drive stick, and it is very complicated. I don't even know how to drive stick. One time, my friend, Sebastian, tried to teach me how to drive his Miata and I almost crashed into a wall and we would have died if my friend Sebastian isn't like the best driver ever and like somehow turned us out of it. I don't even know how he did it from the passenger seat. Anyways, what I'm saying is driving stick is very complicated, and I'm sorry for yelling at you, but you have to understand as well, this was a, you know, this very turbulent time in my life, John. a lot of of stuff going on. Got a lot of thoughts. Look, I have a two and a half hour long podcast. That's that's. Come on, John. I'm working through things. But I'm pretty sure that I'm going to title this one. Sorry I Road raged at you. Can we please be friends? So there we go. Let's be friends now. I really liked everybody's in L.A. show. If this is true, I don't know if this is true. That's conspiracy theories now. And that leads me into like other stuff. Stuff that I might not even talk about on now. Because it's too fresh. You know, the John Molaney thing is like, I've had a month to think about it, so maybe I need a month to think about this other thing and think of it even even worth it, but this new album came out, and this is going to be relating into like triggering memories, how sometimes we forget things until you have, like a memory trigger, like the John Maney making the show was a memory trigger for me to remember, oh, my God, I was yellinging at that guy who drove a black Mini Cooper with a red stripe on the highway that one day. and I said that exact insult.Oh, my God, who's this John Mulaney lookalike?" I'm not thinking, "Oh, my God, everybody lives in LA. Oh! But anyways, this album came out by Billie Eilish, and it was really good, but one of the songs was Chiiro, and I like it a lot. It's really good. The Lunch is also really good. They're all really good. They're awesome. Wildflowers really good. Anyways... I didn't. No. Jahira was from the movie Spirited Away. So everybody was like, like talking about Spirited Away. And I was like, you know what? I think it's time I finally watched it because I'm pretty sure I didn't watch Spirited Away because I have this very distinct memory of I went to go hang out with my friend one night and we were like skateboarding around and then we went back to her house and we like watched Studio Ghibli movies all night long. and I asked her specifically, I was like, "Hey, what's that one with the mask guy? And she was like, spirited away. And I was like, oh, can you watch that? And she said, no, it's a little bit scary. Or she said it was a little bit scary. Maybe I said no, because I don't really like scary stuff. We both moved surely agreed. Let's just watch another one. And then we watched the one with the cat print stuff. That one's lit. I watched that again last night. But anyways, last night I watched Shiro. Fuck. Spirited away. I got to not laugh at my own jokes, but every now and then it's okay. I'm just a little bit too caught up there. I watched Spirited Away, and I thought it was my first time because I was thinking about that time. where I totally went over there with the ulterior motives, too, but then her dad had like a broken finger, and I think that serves as an analogy that like, I had like a broken hearted at the time when I was like, oh, wow, broken finger, broken heart. I don't know. I got two in my head. I left my keys in my cart and was like paranoid about it all night long instead of just going to my car to get my keys. I was. a mess. But it was one of those, like, nights where one of your friends who, uh. just tries to like be there for you, you know, and like bring you comfort and peace. And she really did that. And that's why this memory really sticks around, because it's one of those times where like, oh, it just, you know, had a really fun night and it was just like, wow. And then in that whole entire thing, it made me realize like, oh, wow, I need to change my perspective of reality. I'm getting besides myself because I'm thinking that other people are going to listen to this. They probably aren't. So, yeah, I never watched Spirited Away before, so I started watching Spirited Away last night. That's not. Is that negative manifesting when I say stuff like that? I didn't mean it as a negative manifestation. I just mean that I need to get my mind out of that headspace. So I can actually finish with this podcast. I'm rambling! I watched Spirit away last night. And And all of the visuals were very familiar. and a while ago, you know what sucks is I'm gonna attract from watching Spirited away again, but it's part of the story now. A while ago, like years and years and years and years and years ago, I watched the movie Doctor Sleep and Doctor Sleep actually is a pretty good movie. It's by Stephen King. It's about the kids who was in The Shining, all grown up, and he's Dr. Sleep now. And it's actually a pretty good movie for like, like, you know, entertainment purposes. But it does have like low key some like pretty good advice that they do even teach you in like psychology sometimes. So it's like a pretty fleshed out movie, but they do dramatize stuff for the movie. And one of the points was like, you got to build like a mind palace, like a mind house. and be able to, that's how you'll organize your thoughts. Well, that's how you organize your thoughts. In the movie, he was like, that's how you put the demons in a box or whatever. I don't remember. I do kind of remember. I should rewatch it. You should rewatch it too. We'll have a watch party on my Discord. If you haven't joined my Discord yet, go to my website, www.adamjapello.org. Scroll down to the bottom. You can find all my socials. You can join the Discord. Discord, if you're part of the Discord community, you have an opportunity to be on the podcast because that's how I record some non-in-house, you know, guest podcasts. But that point aside of future endeavors, I built the mine Palace and I built just basically this house in my head, a very intricate house, and it was like a Japanese pagoda. Go Google it. They're really cool. P O GD T Pogoda. I don don't know, man. Sounded out. Sorry if that was rude. Sorry's the listener now. CEO handed out sorrys all over the place today. It's not a hard thing to do. And I was watching Spirited Away last night five times, I think I said it now. and I was like, holy shit, when they got up to the castle, I was like, that's my fucking mind palace. And then they were moving through the castle and stuff. And I was like, ah, those are are features in my mind palace. And I was so like, dude, have I seen this movie before? And just like, I don't remember it? Or maybe like somehow it seeped into my subconscious so deeply that when I tried to create an environment of peace that it then, you know, mirrored spirited away. Or did I just never watched this movie before and it's just like a parallel reality kind of thing. Like I I just built it in my head and they also have it out there. Maybe I was influenced from seeing it in media or something. I don't know, but it was really uncanny. I was like, "Wa, this is crazy." And I was like,Is this the first time I'm seeing this movie? Like, how did I base these concepts in my head off of what is in this movie right now, right here in front of me? And then. I remembered that thought about before, when I was over at my friend's house. I was like, yeah, I'm pretty sure I didn't watch this movie before. And there were points where I was even surprised, too, but that's happened to me with stuff that I've watched before, where I just over time, I've forgotten it. Like, I'm rewatchingAmerican Dad right now, and there's so many points that just make me crack up, even though I've seen a lot of it before. It's like such a good show, but I just forgot some of the jokes. It's just so much time passes and you see so much stuff, you forget things. and I was just so blown away that, like, wow. I totally ripped that concept off and didn't even know that I ripped that concept off. That's like emulation within my own mind. But it's kind of good, too, because it brought me so much peace externally that I wanted to incorporate it, you know, in part of my mind intern internally. And it was actually a really chill night. Like, I could hear the crickets chirping outside, and it was just like a very relaxed atmosphere, and I kind of looked around. and I just like remembered all those times when I was little and I was like,Oh, wow, I finally did it. I finally like reached that like point where I met like a peaceful, like, environment. like this is what I was like running towards my entire life when I'm finally here. Like, whoa. And that makes me think, like, oh shit, did I build it in my brain beforehand because I knew that I was getting to this point in time to watch it at this point in time? And maybe that's why, when I was with my friend, I'll just say, Lizzie, hi, Lizzie, if you see this ever. When I was with my friend Lizzie, is that why she was like, no, I don't think we should watch it because it wasn't supposed to be within that like manner of that flow of time and she was just like, she was kind of like acting like an angel that night. She was being very sweet. So was she like being some kind of like angel through, you know, time and space and being like, here's a point where you can anchor your thoughts until the next time where you can anchor your thoughts, because your thoughts have been anchored there so long, and like, you just need a little respite. And I don't know, that's where my mind kind of gets into the conspiracy theory again, where you get all wrapped up into all this crazy stuff. and that's, like, where my podcast has been arous right now, where I'm all wrapped up into this, like, crazy stuff. And I've kind of like, totally strayed away from the comedy aspect of it, because I wasn't really focusing on comedy right now. just because I wasn't totally outwardly focusing on it doesn't mean I wasn't internally focusing on it. I'm just trying to find my new rhythm, and I don't really feel like going full hog with it until I have that rhythm, you know. And this is helping me flush that out a little bit, and the energy podcast really took a lot of, like, you know, silly stuff out of my brain and just kind of, whoop, you know, put it off. So now my brain can think about funnier things. And that's kind of when I where I want to start gearing this podcast towards again. I want want to start making it a more fun, lighthearted environment. That's why I'm trying to make this one a little bit quick, but I'm having a fun time recording myself because this is genuinely like pretty entertaining to me. I make myself giggle a lot while doing these. I have one of them that I was like, I'll put that away until later. It's just nonsense. But I really love laughter because laughter is like the intersection of like self realization and common understanding. We all like, in order to laugh at anything at all, the people who are you know, being told a joke need to have a common understanding. They're all part of a generation or something or a group of people that has some kind of common understanding throughout all of them. And the joke is that point of like self realization in the common understanding. They all realize it together that it's funny. That's why when you hear one person laugh, something else gets funnier and more people laugh. That's why sometimes comedians will put plants of their friends in the audience so the plants will laugh, so everybody starts laughing, so they know when to laugh, so they know when the jokes hit, because they're worried about their jokes, not hitting at the right times and stuff like that. Which I don't know how I feel about that practice. I kind of like it. But at the same time, I can kind of get obnoxious. I'm not gonna get into that right now because I have a total other podcast that could be. But once you all have that like self realization of like, oh, I do that, or like, I wouldn't do that, or it would be absurd if I did that, or, like, crazy people do that, and you all commonly understand like, oh, that's weird if I did that, or this or that, or the other thing. that's when people laugh. That's when they say, oh, I look at me a little bit, like the person telling the joke has to understand the person they're telling the joke too, and the person that's being told the joke needs to understand themselves and the context around the joke as well. That's why I love laughter so much. It, like, really takes such a deep and like cerebral and complex process and makes it fun. And it's like, whoa, you can really bring people together like that. And in school, I always loved making jokes because when I made a joke in class, I I found when I went to go take a test, it would be easier to remember what I was joking about versus the things that I was like, you know, worried about learning and stuff like that. So I really found out from like a young age that comedy and laughing and having a light heart will help move through life easier because you can remember things easier and you remember the things that matter. And that's why I always wanted to move towards this more in my life. And I think that's why I want to start moving it towards with my podcast more. And I think bringing it back to spirited way, no face. That guy was like a total eye opener.Cause sometimes I feel like that with like my You know how he's like a black mask with his energy just going everywhere? Sometimes I feel like that. And doing the whole energy podcast really made me feel like that, because I was, like trying to understand these like deep concepts of self and other and all this crazy stuff. And I was trying to really, like, flesh it out and like, really just have that, you know, anthology of like, this is energy. And I really just dove right into it, and I ended up becoming like a no face with it because I was trying to figure out all of these different kinds of concepts, and I was consuming so much that I was I was starting to lose myself a little bit, and I was starting to go crazy. And then I finished it. As soon as I finished it, I felt relieved, I felt the weight off of it, but I didn't really feel bad.. I still felt a little bit kind of crazy. And then.. a new album came out, and I heard the song Bluelue by Billie Eilish, and it really made me like it felt like an ocean washing over me. And I was actually listening to it at the beach the other day, and I like zoned out and relaxed. and I was sitting like at the edge of the tide. and like the moment that I relaxed and I was like, like, I dissolved into the universe again, like the wave came and like touched my feet and it scared me and I like, I like jumped and everybody was like, what the fuck is wrong with this guy? And I was like, whoa, but like that song just like, feels like an ocean washed away all my worries. And that was like, you know, the little plum for me in the movie spirit way Shiro gives the no face a plum and he makes it throw up everything. I don't know if it's a plum or something. It's some kind of fruit that helps you get rid of all your bad energy and stuff like that. That's kind of what that felt like I felt. I feel a lot better now. So now that I feel better and all these kinds of things are happening, I'm gonna start moving towards my goals a little bit more with a lighter heart, and I'm going to try and laugh about things. Live, laugh, love, as they say. And whereas energy is a very important part of life, I'm not gonna try to give it as much attention as I needed to make that podcasting. I'm going to try not to do that. And I even said to myself, I was coming up with podcast ideas and there was a couple of them that I ticked off that I was just like, too serious. I don't want want to tackle another big, heavy, serious, I want to explain that a lot topic right now. I just want to have fun. So a few of these are going to be, uh, just fun little quick ones. I'm going to try to have guests on. Like I said, if you join the Discord channel, you have a possibility of being a guest, depending what you want to talk about, Yeah. It was weird, too. I'm gonna go back to Spirit away for a second. It was weird, too, because, like, I didn't understand the concept of no face. Like, I didn't remember it at all. And then when I saw it for the first time, I was like, oh my God, did I like somehow? Like, if I did see it before, did I somehowow absorb that into self, like super subconsciously or, like, did I build my mind palace because like, I ended up, you know, reflecting those actions and life in these kinds of ways, Especially where I was like, like, you know, going into the ethereal realm, that's, you know, I'm just getting spirited away. But I'm one of those people that's, you know, one foot in, the door, one foot out of the door. and I think I got to just put both feet back inside the door and start, you know, having fun again. And then maybe somehow I can turn my fun into profit, fun for profit, profit's for fun fun. I don't know. I had another point that I was going to end this off on, but I'm thinking that I should just pull up some kind of quote or motto, because I think I hit all the points that we'll give you a quick rundown, because sometimes I like to make little previews. I've been cutting them up, I just didn't I haven't released any of them as like little TikToks. So I'll give us a little rundown of the episode. We talked about how your mind makes stuff up in front of you all the time. You can't take yourself too seriously sometimes, because it's right in front of your face all the time. And then how I'm sorry to John Mulaney for road raging at you and how conspiracy theories play into that somehow. And then how spirited away is somehow deep within my psyche, but I don't think I have ever seen the movie... I have no idea what I'm going to title this. Oh, oh, probably going to title it Sorry for Road Raging at you. I'm looking for a quote now. I keep getting worried about Dead Space, but somebody told me, like, "Yo, leave in the dead space. We need time to think." So as I look for my motto,, I have a whole folder full of uh. You would have found out that that there was like eight minutes of dead air on the end of my podcast. And I also like repeated a phrase by accident because I recorded it twice and I was going to decide between the two. And on my listen through, I didn't catch that it went twice because it's, you know, two and a half hours long. So I fixed that today.. Oh, dude, I remember my extra point, and it's actually good that I remembered it at the end, because it's kind of like an offshoot. due to my tendency of high pattern recognition, I I love scavenger hunts. I've been hiding little Easter eggs here and there. and I just realized because I had to, you know, re-upload a podcasts, I just realized, like, yo, I could hide secret messages in a podcast and then take it down and put up a different podcast in the same spot that looks almost exactly the same and nobody would know. So I thought of an idea that it would be really fun to make like a scavenger hunt or something. But I think that's something that I'll have to do when I get a little bit more steam behind me. But if you're listening to this and you have any ideas for stuff like that, please feel free to email me or hit me up. You know, www.adamjCapello C.org. or ADAM JC-PE L-O dot at gmail.com. I like having really long emails so that when they ask me for the email in the store or something, I have like one that's like a really long, like bullshit email that I give them. I really love that. But anyways, I have a quote from the show Hunters on Amazon and I think it kind of applies to like, letting yourself off the hook, you know, you know, don't be yourself up so much. And the quote goes, in a world full of constipation and diarrhea, it's okay to be just a normal piece of shit from time to time. I'll let you digest that one. Remember, keep it easy out there. You are loved in peace
